Seeing The Unseen

As leaders, we play a major role to guide our organization to achieve the best and we need a picture of the future that God tattooed on our heart when we lead. This soul-tattoo is called a vision. Vision is something that we cannot see but we believe it will happen. It is an internal pull that we can’t measure, but we know it is real. It dominates our thoughts and we are willing to risk everything to make this vision shared and stayed on the heart of others. For us to have a true life, we need to make our vision to become our present reality. Some leaders have their visions by watching other leaders and follow their tracks. It will work in a fairly stable environment, but in the current rapid changing environment and radical and disruptive innovation, this way will be impossible to do. We have to lead our organization by having a powerful vision and the ability to share the vision to our team and lead them to achieve it. Part of the process to achieve our vision, we have the function to help each team members to unleash their passion, talent and potential to develop an innovative team. As leaders, we need to have a paradigm shift. Traditional leaders lead by focusing on competition, control and compliance to make success for the organization. However, in this disruptive world leaders need to utilize and maximize connection, collaboration and creation to do what others would never imagine. We have to be the first to lead in innovative ways. Traditional leaders relied on control and power of position, but it won’t work in our current world. We should have the ability to recognize the untapped potential in our team and guide them into seeing the unseen. Traditional leaders want their team to follow and obey for whatever the leaders instruct them to do, but now we should have the willingness to ask what are their thoughts and listen to what they say. It is not an easy thing to do because as leaders, we tend to consider ourselves knowing all things better than our team members. It takes a humble heart as leader to recognize the need to change the way we lead our team.

For us to see the unseen potential in our team members, we have to observe closely the performance for each of our team members. Does the person execute his/her current responsibilities with excellence or has the capacity to do well in his/her current role? Do they have excess capacity? Because it will be a sign that they are ready to take a bigger challenge. Do they have personal energy to take that challenge, have the desire to do more and passion toward their work and organization? Being a leader, we are required to see the best potential in someone and untapped it out to produce the best of him.
